Bennington is one of the 14 counties in the state of Vermont. It was created in 1779, making it one of the original two counties in the state (besides Windham county). As of the 2010 census, the population was 37,125. The county seats (or shire towns) are Bennington and Manchester. The county has 678 square miles in area.
