El Dorado is one of the 58 counties in the state of California. It was created in 1850, making it one of the original counties of the state. As of the 2010 census the population was 181,058, up from 156,299 in 2000. The county seat is Placerville and the largest city is South Lake Tahoe.
The county has 1,788.1 square miles (4,631.2 km2) of area, of which 1,710.85 sq mi (4,431.1 km2) is land.
