Madera is one of the 58 counties in the state of California. It was created in 1893 from part of Mariposa county. As of the 2010 census the population was 150,865, up from 123,109 in 2010. The county seat and largest city is Madera.
The county has 2,153.32 square miles (5,577.1 km2) of area, of which 2,135.86 sq mi (5,531.9 km2) is land. It is bordered by Fresno County to the south and west, Merced County to the northwest, Mariposa County to the north, and Tuolumne and Mono counties to the northeast.
